MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY COURSES
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
COMPULSORY COURSES
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CODE: HOH701 MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY
The course is multidisciplinary between chemistry, biology, pharmacology and medicine which aims to introduce an overview and basic concepts of medicinal chemistry including discovery, design, identification, preparation and development of bioactive compounds for disease treatment. Students will learn how to study the mechanism of action of drug and its quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR).
CODE: HOH206 BIOCHEMISTRY
The course provides basic knowledge on structure, function and metabolism of biological molecules, i.e protein, carbohydrate, lipid and nucleic acid. Function and activity of special proteins such as enzymes and receptors are discussed in detail to figure out the catalysis ability of enzymes and sinal transmission in cells. Protein synthesis is also mentioned, then connected to recombinant protein and other techniques of recombinant DNA.
CODE: HOH205 CHEMISTRY OF NATURAL PRODUCTS
This is a compulsory subject of organic chemistry graduate students. This course provides information about the origin, ecological role, isolation, structure determination, biosynthesis, biological activity, synthetic, semi-synthetic, and application of natural compounds belonging to the group of terpenoids, steroids, phenols, and alkaloids.
CODE : HOH702 MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY SYNTHESIS
This course provides students with fundamental knowledge about the chemical and physical factors and chemical structures which affects the biological activities and shows the chemical reactions used in medicinal chemistry synthesis such as boding formation, transformation and protecting groups, rearrangement, retrosynthesis, and presentation of synthetic processes for cancer drugs, anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotic drugs, drugs affected on central nervous system, cardiac medication, antimalarial drugs, sedative drugs.
CODE: HOH703
SCREENING METHODS FOR THE EVALUATION OF BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY IN DRUG DISCOVERY
This course provides general principles in screening biological activities, biotechnicals, procedures, and bioassay models to study on drug discovery and drug development.
CODE: HOH704 MEDICINAL CHEMITRY LABORATORY
To equip students with knowledge about pharmaceutical practice such as medicinal testing methods, qualitative compounds in medicinal plant materials, using column chromatography and thin chromatography to isolate compounds, synthesis and drug control, bioactive test.

CODE: HOH711 TOXICOLOGY
This course provides the basic knowledge related to toxicology concepts, classification of toxins, the toxic analysis methods and the transport of toxicants in the environment and in organisms. The dose‐response relationships, effects of toxicants on the assimilation and metabolism processes of humans and types of toxicants will be described in detail.
Through basic understanding of toxicology, we can avoid the risk of exposure and infection, control the use of chemicals and food additives as well as preventing all forms of toxic waste into the environment.
CODE: HOH712 QUALITY CONTROL OF MEDICINAL PLANT MATERIALS
The course presents the theoretical basis of modern analytical methods and application of active ingredient as well as impurities in many medicinal plant materials. In addition, the course is also equipped with knowledge qualitative and quantitative methods for each group of substances in each of medicinal plant materials and introduced analytical standards for each type of medicinal plant materials.
CODE: HOH713 QUALITY CONTROL OF MEDICINAL PLANT MATERIALS LABORATORY
This course provide student with basic knowledge about the medicinal testing practice of the medicinal plant materials by assessment methods and chemical methods. This course presents the theoretical basis of modern analytical methods for analysis and active ingredient application as well as impurities in many medicinal plant materials. In addition, the course is also equipped with knowledge qualitative and quantitative methods for each group of substances in each of medicinal plant materials and introduced analytical standards for each type of medicinal plant materials.
CODE: HOH714 EXCIPIENT SYNTHESIS
This course aims to provide general basis knowledge and classification of excipient, the impact of physical and chemical properties of excipient on effecting of drug and methods of manufacture excipients.
CODE: HOH715 FUNTIONAL FOODS
This course provides basis knowledge in nutritional components, effect and usage of the functional food for healthy people, along with researching, manufacturing and marketing the functional food products originated from plant, animal and microorganism.
CODE: HOH717 TARGETED THERAPY DRUG
The course will provide students with general concepts of smart drug carrier and smart drugs. Students will be updated with the basic knowledge of materials able to carry drugs based on biocompatible polymers and especially on the basis of biocompatible nanopolymer. Following, students will be provided with knowledge about the process of synthesis of smart carrying drug systems and especially the smart carrying anti-cancer drugs system. Students are also provided intensive knowledge about the synthesis of smart drugs and smart prodrug, especially smart anticancer drugs.
CODE: HOH702 COMPUTER-AIDED DRUG DESIGN
The course will give students an overview of the process of drug development and design, starting with the drug was found, into preclinical testing, clinical. Students will have access to many software applications, databases, and compute resources in the field of drug design by computer. Special courses will equip students with a number of methods and techniques for simulating interactions between the drug and the disease-causing protein, to obtain deep insight about the use of computers to design or improve structures architecture, pharmacology of drugs.
