CODE: HOH401                 ANALYTICAL METHODS FOR ATOMIC SPECTROSCOPY

      The course introduces most critical analytical methods/techniques among the currently used atomic spectrometric methods. These include methods based on atomic absorption with different atomisation techniques (such as flame, graphite furnace, hydride generation and cold vapour) and atomic emission using excitation sources regarding to flame and inductively coupled plasma. Each method is presented the general principles, instrumentation, analytical techniques scopes of application, inteferences and correction, sample preparation for analysis and data treatment.

 

CODE: HOH402                   SPECTROPHOTOMETRY ANALYSIS

     This course, among the others taught in Analytical Chimistry, provides fundamental knowledge of electronic spectra of molecular absorption occuring within the UV-VIS-NIR range of 190-1100 nm as well as fundamental principles and application of the method in quantitation of inorganic/organic ions and organic compounds in various types of samples. The course gives the following …. : fundametals os molecular spectrophotometry, basic laws of absorption of electromagnetic radiation, instrumentation, characteristics of the absorption spectra (e.g. peak profile, the absorption additivity, …), quantitation approaches, chromophore modification by chemical reaction and application.

 

CODE: HOH403             SAMPLING AND SAMPLE PREPARATION IN ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY             

       This course is considered the key course for an analytical chemist where one can learn combine all basic and advanced knowledge in chemistry and flexibly apply them to prepare various types of samples for chemical analysis. In detail, this course helps students to summarized knowledge achieved for the on-purpose application to have better understanding, to suggest and to establish appropriate methods/procedures for sampling, storage and preparation assigned for specific types of sample, analytical methods and the users or clients.

 

 CODE: HOH404                        CHROMATOGRAPHY                            

      The course in Chromatography is dedicated to students who have studied basic courses on organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and physical chemistry. Along with analytical electrochemistry and molecular and atomic spectrometry, the course also provides basic knowledge of instrumental analytical chemistry. This course is compulsory for senior student (the 4th year) in Analytical Chemistry but optional for students from other branches in Chemistry. The aim of the course is to provide fundamentals in gas and liquid chromatography as well as the instrumentation and applications.

 

CODE: HOH405                        ELECTROANALYTICAL METHODS

      The course is to provide knowledge of physical and chemical processes on the electrodes of an electrochemical cell and the application of electrochemical methods in the determination of inorganic and organic compounds in various types of samples

 

CODE: HOH406                        SPECTROPHOTOMETRY LABORATORY

      The course help students to achieve basic and advanced skills in the practice of spectrometric analysis. The students are instructed to comprehend and establish analytical methods for specific types of samples applied to spectrometric instruments such as UV-VIS, AAS or ICP-OES).

 

CODE: HOH407            CHROMATOGRAPHY AND ANALYTICAL ELECTROCHEMISTRY LABORATORY

      The course, organised for senior students in Analytical Chemistry, is to provide skills in manipulation of some analytical methods/procedures on the most currently used electrochemical as well as chromatographic instruments such as gas and liquid chromatographs, conductometer, electrolyser, potentiometer…. This course is optional only for students who have studied courses in chromatography and electrochemistry.

 CODE: HOH440                        STATISTICS IN ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY

      The course introduces basic tools for Statistical Analysis of data obtained from quantitative analysis. The content of the course includes the  concept of measurand and measurement, significant figures, descriptive statistics, statistical tests for outlier removal, comparing the differences in variances as well as in mean values calculated from experimental measurements, One-way Analysis of Variance, regression analysis, limit of detection and quantitation, and uncertainty estimation under ISO 17025.

 

CODE: HOH442                        ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMISTRY 

      The course is compulsory for students in Envvironmental Science and optional for students in Analytical Chemistry. It provides fundamentals about the origins, reaction, transformation and speciation of chemical substances in atmospheric, aquatic and terrestrial environments. Additionally, the course also considers the interactions between humanbeing and chemical constituents of the environment.

The content of the course is composed in 6 chapters as follow

Chapter 1 : Introduction of Environmental Chemistry

Chapter 2 : Atmosphere and Atmospheric Chemistry

Chapter 3 : Hydrosphere and Aquatic Chemistry

Chapter 4 : Terrestrial Chemistry

Chapter 5 : The cycles in nature

Chapter 6 : Souces of fossil fuels and sources of energy for future

 

CODE: HOH443                        TECHNICAL ANALYSIS       

      The course introduces the combination of theoretical aspects of analytical methods and sample preparation to establish analytical procedures using examples which are currently used national and internaltional standards such as TCVN (Vietnam National Standard), AOAC, ASTM, APHA…  Students are instructed to read, comprehend and explain accurately and precisely the analytical procedures. It is critical for the students in analytical chemistry to achieve these capabilites before their graduate work in laboratory and the coming years at their career. The course focuses to the explanation of analytical procedures for major, minor and trace elemental analysis as well as organic compounds  in various types of samples such as silicates, metals and alloys, fertilizer, foodstuffs, environmental samples….

 

 CODE: HOH444                        TECHNICAL ANALYSIS LABORATORY

      The course provides students opportunities to shorten the gap between the theory and practice, enabling them to achieve better understanding in chemical analysis and improve their skills in laboratory practice based on national and international standard methods/procedures such as TCVN, AOAC, ASTM APHA…. The types of the samples involved in the laboratory work are foodstuffs (e.g. milk, fish/soya sauces, beverage,…), metals/metalloids, environmental samples (water, sediment,..) using both chemical analysis or instrumental analysis methods.

 

 CODE: HOH445                          FOOD ANALYSIS

      The course is a branch of Technical Analysis and focuses to foodstuff only where the students are dealt with the development, application and study of the analytical procedures for charecterizing the properties of foods and their constituents. In the course, the basic principles of standardized analytical procedures/methods for food analysis of specific types of samples are reviewed and discussed.

 

CODE: HOH447                        ANALYTICAL INSTRUMENTATION

      The course is designed for students in Analytical Chemistry. It provides knowledge of instrumentation for the most currently used instruments for chemical analysis including spectro(photo)metry, chromatography and electrochemistry  regarding to principles, operation, basic maintainance, calibration and their ultilisation in various application such as environment, food, chemical, pharmaceuticals, forensics…

 

CODE: HOH448                        WATER -WASTEWATER TREATMENTS

      The course provides fundamental knowledge of chemical processes in aquatic environment and the impacts of toxic chemicals to the quality of water. Additional, the students also learn i. the treatment of domestic wastewater and industrial wastewater including the effects of their constituents, properties and the discharged capacity to the the treatment ; ii. The characteristics of the discharged systems of dosmetic and industrial wastewater ; iii. Processes and methods/technologies for industrial wastewater regarding to mechanics, chemical, physicochemical, biological aspects as well as friendly environmental technologies for sustainable development.

      The course consists of two interlaced parts interleaving presented as follows : 1. Introduction to wastewater, cycle changes in aquatic environment, and part 2 : current approaches of water treatment.
